⬇️ The short version: VK Video Downloader collects no data at all. It saves the video (or its audio track) you asked for, straight from VK’s servers to your Downloads folder, entirely on your device — no accounts, no analytics, no trackers, no servers of ours.

1. Who we are

VK Video Downloader ("the extension") is a browser extension for Google Chrome that lets you download the VKontakte video you are watching — as an MP4 file in the quality you choose, or as an audio-only M4A file — on vk.com, vk.ru and vkvideo.ru. This policy explains what information the extension does — and, more importantly, does not — handle.

2. What data we collect

None. The extension does not collect, transmit, store remotely, sell or share any personal information or browsing data. Specifically, we do not collect:

The videos or audio files you download — they travel directly from VK’s own servers to your computer through Chrome’s download manager; the developer never sees them
Your VK account details, credentials, cookies or session — the extension reads the player data of the page you are on using your existing VK session, and that data never leaves your browser
Your browsing history or the addresses of pages you visit
Personal details such as your name, email address or identifiers
Usage analytics, telemetry or crash reports

The extension has no server. There is nowhere for your data to be sent.

3. What is stored on your device

The extension stores only your own settings and short-lived working data:

Your preferences — the chosen format (video or audio), preferred quality, file-naming options and the "ask where to save" switch. These are kept in Chrome’s extension storage (chrome.storage.sync). If you have Chrome sync enabled, Chrome itself syncs them across your devices as part of your Google profile — the developer never sees them.
A short-lived, per-tab list of media stream addresses that the VK player loaded while a video played, kept in session storage only. It is used as a fallback so a playing video can still be saved when VK’s player data cannot be parsed, and it is cleared automatically when the tab navigates or closes.

Audio-only downloads are produced entirely on your device: the extension downloads the video data from VK and extracts the audio track locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, and the temporary data is discarded as soon as the M4A file is saved. Uninstalling the extension removes its settings.

4. Why the extension requests its permissions

Permission	Why it is needed
`Access to VK websites` (host permissions)	Required to read the player data on the VK page you are on and to fetch video/audio files from VK’s own media servers (vkuser.net, mycdn.me and similar). The extension runs only on VK sites — it reads nothing anywhere else.
`downloads`	Saves the chosen video or audio file through Chrome’s normal download manager, with a sanitized file name.
`storage`	Saves your preferences and the short-lived per-tab stream list described in section 3.
`scripting`	Injects the extension’s content script into a VK tab that was already open when you installed the extension, so you don’t have to reload the page.
`webRequest`	Observes (read-only) which media files the VK player loads, as the fallback described in section 3. Nothing is modified, blocked or recorded beyond the current tab’s session.
`activeTab`	Lets the popup see the address of the tab you are on when you open it, so it knows which VK video page it is looking at. The address is used at that moment only and never recorded.
`offscreen`	Runs the local audio extraction: an offscreen page downloads the video data and hands the finished M4A file to the download manager, entirely on your device.

5. Third-party services

The extension uses no third-party services, analytics providers, advertising networks or remote APIs. All of its code is bundled inside the extension and runs entirely on your device. The only network requests it makes are to VK’s own websites and media servers, on your behalf, to fetch the video you asked to save.

6. Your responsibility when downloading

Please only download videos you have the right to save — your own content, content with the author’s permission, or content in the public domain — and respect VK’s terms of service and the copyright law of your jurisdiction. The extension is a tool; what you download with it is your responsibility.

7. Children’s privacy

Because the extension collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.

8. Changes to this policy

If a future version of the extension ever changes how data is handled, this policy will be updated and the "Effective" date above revised before that version is released. Material changes will be noted in the extension’s store listing changelog.
